How it works: Generate Traditional Schwartz Equation (1976) and Modified Bedside Schwartz Equation (2009)

Formulas Used for eGFR Calculation

1. Traditional 1976 Schwartz Equation
eGFR = (K x Height (cm)) / Serum Creatinine (mg/dL)

whereas K is selected based on age and gender (as per the criteria below).

Age Categories and Corresponding K-Values
The Schwartz formula uses a proportionality constant (K) that varies based on the patient’s age and gender:
Adolescent Female (>13 years): K=0.55
Premature Infant (0 years or <1 year old): K=0.33
Term Infant (1–52 weeks): K=0.45
Children (1–13 years): K=0.55
Adolescent Male (>13 years): K=0.70

2. Bedside Schwartz Equation (2009) – Modified for Clinical Use
eGFR = (0.413 * Height (cm)) / Serum Creatinine (mg/dL)
This version was developed to improve accuracy in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
